  • Susan Poland selected as 2010 Key of Honor recipient

The prestigious Key of Honor award is the highest honor bestowed by Key Club International. The award recognizes individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty in dedicating his/her energy to serving the youth of our nation.

Susan Poland began serving the Key Club members of Dysart High School as their advisor in 1981. In her 28 years in this role, Susan has continually supported her students as they pursue leadership through service. Without exception, she is always ready to accept any new assignment with a positive spirit and tireless work ethic. The woman never sleeps—but she continually serves.

After her start with Key Club, Susan has steadily increased her work with the Kiwanis family, steadily taking on more responsibility Key Club, Key Leader and Kiwanis. Also a mother of two, Susan has maintained her dedication to her students with an enthusiastic approach to the rite of passage from adolescence to adulthood. She expects excellence from her students, and many mention her high expectations for them as the reason they set their sights higher in life than what they felt was expected of them.

Susan has been called an educator, mentor, professional liason from academia into the real world and role model. She has an innate ability to multi-task with a great sense of enthusiasm, humor and productiveness. She does not criticize, she praises.  She does not judge, she encourages. In doing these things, she is able to enjoy the accomplishments and dedication of the members of her school and community.
