10 ways to support UNICEF’s Saving Lives: The Six Cents Initiative
12/16/2009 12:00:00 AM
1. Send an e-mail to your district service chair or governor about encouraging your district to participate and learn additional information about the Six Cents Initiative.
2. Join the Facebook Group Circle K Six Cents Initiative.
3. Raise awareness in your community by conducting a town hall meeting or panel discussion.
4. Fundraise for the Six Cents fund by using the Six Cents canister wrapper. Place canisters around campus and in local businesses to collect money that will help fund the education, research and advocacy of the Six Cents Initiative. A printable canister can be found at www.unicefusa.org/circlek.
5. Go to a local school and teach students about water conservation. Examples include: use a broom instead of a hose, shorten your showers, fix leaky faucets and don’t use the toilet as a wastebasket.
6. Educate your Circle K club by using the “Fill the Glass Activity” located at www.unicefusa.org/circlek . This fun activity will help others understand how severe our world water crisis is.
7. Increase the knowledge of The Six Cents Initiative on your campus by chalking sidewalks or blogging about water issues on Facebook, MySpace or Twitter.
8. Create a pick-a-duck fundraising game (ducks in a pond of water). Prizes could be water related—from water bottles to a snorkel. Include information about Six Cents to inform the buyers of the cause.
9. Tape the word “UNICEF” or “WATER” in giant letters on a main walkway on campus and ask people to place coins on the tape.
10. Form a Six Cents Initiative team, and create a team goal. Just remember that at only six cents, a mixture of sugar and salt (ORS) is the most effective way to help save lives through episodes of dehydration.
