FLIPping for Key Club grads

In many districts, the number of former Key Club members who make the transition to CKI is small. For example, in the Texas-Oklahoma District, the number of active Key Club members ranges from 13,000-15,000 annually, but in that same district, CKI has just over 500 members.

“We can see that many Key Clubbers are missing the opportunity to become a part of another wonderful Kiwanis-family organization in Circle K International,” says Donnesh Amrollah, a CKI member at The University of Texas at Austin. And they’ve decided to do something about it.

The Texas-Oklahoma District of CKI uses a recruitment program called Freshman Leadership Incentive Program (FLIP) to target recent Key Club graduates. Additionally, the Texas-Oklahoma board decided to give its Key Club graduates another opportunity to become acquainted with CKI when they transitioned an event for members and alumni into a recruiting event. “Our Summer Reunion was revamped to become our first annual Camp CKI, where Key Clubbers were able spend the weekend with CKI members from all over our great district,” Amrollah says. “They get to experience what service, leadership and fellowship is like on the collegiate level.”

Though the Texas-Oklahoma District of CKI only entertained a small group of former Key Clubbers, they discovered a lot about the likes and dislikes of former Key Clubbers. “We know the knowledge we gained from those Key Club grads will help us attract more Key Clubbers to Camp CKI, and CKI in general,” Amrollah says. “We look forward to success of this event in summers to come, and are looking forward to a great year ahead for Texas-Oklahoma CKI.”
