World Service Medal

World Service Medal winner Gray Heppner

Kiwanis International’s highest service award

Kiwanis International annually seeks to honor an individual or organization that significantly enhances the quality of life for a noteworthy number of people. The prestigious World Service Medal is presented at the international convention when worthy recipients are identified.

Past honorees include Giuseppe Maggi, MD, who gave up private practice in Switzerland to dedicate the last 40 years of his life to providing medical care to the remote peoples of the Cameroons in West Africa, and Fr. Pedro Opeka of Madagascar, who rescued “garbage people” from the city dump in which they resided and taught them to be self-sufficient.

Your gift to Kiwanis International Foundation’s US$1.5 million World Service Medal endowment helps underwrite the US$10,000 honorarium that celebrates and provides impetus to the life-changing work of World Service Medal recipients.
