Better World Books

Better World Books (BWB) capitalizes on the value of the book to fund and support literacy initiatives locally, nationally, and around the world. BWB works with more than 1,400 libraries and 1,800 college campuses across the United States and Canada to collect unwanted textbooks and library discards in support of nonprofit literacy programs. BWB also collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide.

BWB has collected more than 11.4 million books since the spring of 2003, sending more than 1 million books to partner programs and saving more than 6,500 tons of books from landfills. But that’s only part of the story. BWB has raised more than $2.8 million for literacy and education non-profit organizations, including Books for Africa, Feed the Children, and Room to Read.

How can CKI members get involved with Better World Books? CKI clubs can collect and package books for BWB's “Book Drives for Better Lives” program. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these books goes to the National Center for Family Literacy. Circle K International also will receive a portion of the sales.
